Broker Work Queues

The VDX broker is a special form of ILL Consortial-Lender or Consortial-Borrower (or mixed). It works on behalf of the location that placed the original request.

Consortial lender: in this scenario VDX acts on behalf of a group of libraries, presenting the consortium as a single 'lending location' that lends to the outside world.

Consortial borrower: in this scenario VDX acts on behalf of an explicit broker location or clearing house which is presenting itself as a single 'borrowing location' to the outside world, and presents itself as the 'outside world' to its member libraries. Member libraries route all their outgoing requests to the broker location, which then reroutes the requests onward to one or more potential external lenders.

The content of the Work Queue depends on configuration in the Windows Admin Client. The following explains the content of the 'Standard' Broker Work Queue. These are limited to borrower-side view, up to the point item is shipped - on the assumption that after the item has been shipped to the borrowing location the broker's staff no longer need to participate in the transaction.
